Misleading Sizing

I bought these and went with 4 since I thought they were based on pants sizing and there wasn't much help from the sizing guide. When they arrived it said they were a large? They're super cute but unfortunately too big for me. It's also annoying maternity is only return by mail so I'm going to try and wash dry to help assist with shrinkage.
